Year 3/4 - Mr Thorpe and Mrs Knott
Day 1
The children all had a fantastic first day at forest school today. This morning we risk assessed the forest, played teamwork games, built shelters, used a bow saw to start making Christmas decorations and finally finished off the day by having a fire and toasting marshmallows.
We also made the Advent Wreath that we used in our Advent Service.
We are all really looking forward to our next session.
Day 2
It has been wonderful to see the children excited by their Forest School session what ever the weather. This week we learnt how to tie a timber hitch to secure our shelters. We also used the knives to make pegs to stop our shelters blowing about in the wind.
In the afternoon the children made clay pots and Ancient Greek temples. We are all really looking forward to our next session when we will get to cook on an open fire.
Day 3
Well what a windy finish we had to our forest schools sessions. The children battled the wind in the morning in an attempt to create shelter and we were amazed all of them managed it! –Even if only for a couple of minutes. We then had lots of fun building habitats for a variety of animals using the materials around us.
In the afternoon the children had the opportunity to cook on an open fire, they created a delicious Greek chicken casserole! It was a great way to help all of us warm up. Well done Year 3/4 you have all participated with great enthusiasm in your forest schools sessions.
