Relationship Education
At St Joseph’s, we recognise and respond to the needs of each and every child.
We work hard to identify and support both the academic and emotional needs of our pupils, ensuring that every child is nurtured and valued as an individual. Our aim is to develop happy, fulfilled, well‑educated and confident children within a caring, nurturing and joyful environment rooted in our Catholic faith.
The formation of the whole child lies at the heart of our pastoral care. In line with the Government’s statutory requirements for Relationships Education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), we deliver a curriculum that reflects both national guidance and our Catholic values. We are proud to work in partnership with Ten:Ten to deliver the Life to the Full programme, which follows the Catholic Education Service model curriculum. This programme supports children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and helps them to grow in respect for themselves and others, guided by the teachings of the Church.
Alongside this, St Joseph’s follows the My Happy Mind programme across all year groups. This whole‑school approach to mental wellbeing supports children in developing positive mental health, resilience and emotional literacy. My Happy Mind is embedded within our PSHE curriculum and wider school life, helping children to understand their feelings, develop coping strategies and build healthy relationships, so they are well equipped to flourish both academically and personally.
Through our PSHE and RSE provision, we promote a school‑wide message of love, compassion and respect for all. In addition to Life to the Full and My Happy Mind, our curriculum is enriched through the use of the No Outsiders scheme, themed curriculum days and Philosophy for Children (P4C) sessions. These approaches encourage pupils to develop empathy, critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the world around them in an age‑appropriate and inclusive way.
We are grateful to all parents and carers who took the time to respond to our RSE consultation survey. Your feedback is invaluable and is being used to further develop and refine our approach, ensuring that our PSHE and RSE provision reflects the needs of our children, families and wider school community.
