Miss Hilditch's Class (2017-2018)

Monday 25th September

On a cool (slightly wet) Monday morning children came to school dressed in wellies and coats ready for a day learning outside the classroom. The morning started with children exploring the area and finding areas that might be dangerous. Children were brilliant at thinking about how to stay safe.

After a lovely snack of hot chocolate and a biscuit children were ready to get stuck in again. Year 1 had fun creating a road and taking The Naughty Bus on a journey.

"I love this, it is my favourite" - Harry R

"I love everything about Forest School it's so much fun!" - Harley A

"I loved building the roads for the bus using lots of sticks!" - Joseph

The afternoon was full of excitement! Children were able to use logs to build a 3D bus, they also made a variety of interesting meals at the Forest School mud kitchen! Year 1 finished the day with a fire and a toasted marshmallow!

Well done year 1, a super day!

Monday 16th October

On a cold and breezy morning year 1 were ready and dressed for their forest school session. After a chat about staying safe in the area and the weather. Children then had some woodland animals and had to pretend  that there had been an accident. Year 1 were fantastic at teaching their woodland animals the three forest school rules.

Monday 4th December

On a crisp, cool winter morning children came dressed in thick coats and hats and scarves, ready to start the day. First job was to set up the fire circle! Next up was thinking about how to use equipment safely. Children spent the morning problem solving. How could we transfer water to put the great fire of London out?! Children thought of ways to use pipes and cups to move water from one bucket to another. They were brilliant and their problem solving skills are improving!

After a lovely hot chocolate and snack it was time for some maths! Children found a selection of sticks and put them in order from smallest to largest, children also used sticks to make a sorting grid to sort different items from the forest!

Monday 8th January

The first day back into school can always be a bit tricky! Not for year one who came to school dressed in lots of layers ready for a chilly day in the forest. Children began the day playing eagle eye- a game all about thinking quick and exploring the forest.

Next up was some English and Science activities. Year 1 had to think of words to describe

MUD

wet, dirty, soft, brown, squelchy, dark

Children thought of brilliant words, however we then had to go and investigate and see if the mud was like that today. Children quickly realised the mud was different!

Cold, solid, rough, slippy, hard, frozen.

Brilliant investigation year 1, you could tell each other that the weather and time of year had changed the mud!
