Advent Homework Project

Friday 17th November – Friday 15th December

Following on from Mrs Thorpe’s assembly this week, we are setting a homework project for the whole school. Over the coming weeks, we would like each family to create their own nativity scene /set for this Christmas.

When your nativities are ready, you can bring them into school where they will be exhibited in the windows. During our whole school Carol Concert on Thursday 21st December, all of our nativity sets will be displayed in church and blessed by Fr Simon.

This is a family project and we invite everyone to get involved. Here are a few ideas for possible nativity ideas:

• Can you knit the scene?

• Can you use salt dough to create the figures?

• How about painting the scene?

• What about finger puppets?

• How about using wood or natural materials?

• I’ve even seen a nativity scene made from sweets

• Can you think about other countries interpretations of the nativity?

We ask each family to create one nativity scene between them, which helps the children understand the true meaning of Christmas. It would be lovely if you could email a photograph to school of your family working on this project together – these photographs will also be displayed in church over the Christmas period.

This homework project will replace other homework activities for the coming three weeks. However, we do ask that you carry on reading daily with your child and continue to help them with their spellings. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss this project, please do come and see Mrs Thorpe in school.

Please remember that you are welcome to join us for our Advent Service on Thursday 30th November at 9.15am in the school hall.
